Wow well doneWeissheim. I entered that comp to win the tickets as well but never got a phone call. I really thought I was going to win tickets from Planet Rock as I've won loads from them in the past but they choose you instead lol!!!!!! Also entered to win tickets from Total Rock but it doesn't look like I've won them either!!!!
Oh just think, we will be seeing the mighty Diamond Head exactly one week tonight - WOW I CANNOT WAIT. Never in a million years did I think I would be seeing them so soon. Its going to be totally AWESOME. I'll see you down the front Weissheim - I've got a Thin Lizzy and Diamond Head tshirt but obviously will be wearing the DH one
To Diamond Head - is there any chance you could play either Sweet & Innocent or Shoot out the Lights this time, they are 2 of my fav songs of all time. Even if you could play just one of them at the Glasgow concert that would be MINDBLOWING!!!! THANK YOU. |

Does anyone know if its just Diamond Head and Thin Lizzy for Glasgow - someone mentioned some other band called Dog soemthing or other but I can't see it mentioned anywhere. I just want Diamond Head and Thin Lizzy - or better still just more Diamond Head. |

Well come up to Glasgow then Woody and you'll get to see the mighty Diamond Head. Thin Lizzy were brilliant when I saw them supporting Deep Purple back in May and I've seen them twice before that but Diamond Head are about forty million times better than Thin Lizzy. They were sensational at the Cathouse last month. And remember and wear your Saxon tshirt Woody!!!! |

Hi Princess.
I don't think I'll be down the front, as I'm bringing my son along with me too. Probably be next to the mixing desk.
Have a great time. |

Copy of my gig review from Saturday night, previously posted on Classic Rock Readers site. Diamond Head should blow TL away every night then
OK, I have had time to reflect and I have to say there is no real change of opinion; I love Thin Lizzy and I have seen them once before on the "Life" tour, they were fantastic then.
We were customarily late, the lobby and bar seemed very quiet, no buzz at all. Yes I know the Stone Gods were on stage but I have been to gigs enough times to know what to expect under these circumstances. The atmosphere was flat.
We were seated up stairs, which I quite like, went into the auditorium only to find it nearly empty. The Stone Gods were making a hell of a din which did not seem too good. We only caught the last one and a half tracks, neither impressed. After they had gone, we spoke to a few people and over heard a few others. No one was impressed with the Stone Gods, I did not hear one good word said about them. Personaly I won't judge till I have heard a bit more, but the omens are not great. (The half track on their web site seems OK.)
No Diamond Head at Ipswich, despite advert on their own web site saying differently ((((((((((
So Thin Lizzy come on and the top half of the theatre becomes, maybe, two thirds full.
It seems most people, including us, had bought tickets to see Queensryche but came for Lizzy all the same.
I checked below and there was a reasonable crowd who seemed desperate to enjoy themselves, fair play to them.
Lizzy started OK. For his age I think Scot Gorman looked great, I am in no position to critisise his guitaring, I think he is a great guitarist. The bassist was brilliant, but who could fill Phill's shoe's ? He didnt even come close.
The drummer, was fantastic, he may or may or may not be "the best drummer in the world" in Johns Sykes words, but he is just not right for the music of Thin Lizzy. It just did not seem right, too fast, too powerfull, too loud. Dont get me wrong, in another band, he would be superb, just not here.
So on to John Sykes, who is a great guitarist, (I have followed him since his Tygers days) he is also an reasonable vocalist, perhaps not the most exciting stage presence but, adequete.
As a band though, they really failed to excite, they were just boring with a hyper drummer who seemed to be in the wrong band. Johns vocals and the guitaring was monotonus, every song sounded the same to me, including the ballards. It seemed to be all in the same key, mostly the same rythm. The sound seemed good but the playing was uninteresting the interaction was minimal. No humour, a few references to Phill but nothing interesting.
And what did Scot do to the beging of The Cowboys Song ? Desparately bad, embarrasing.
It was just soo boring (
Several people left as the "show" progressed. I went to the bog during the drum solo and the upstairs seating area was, maybe, 30% full. People leaving all the time, including us.
I looked downstairs and there was a reasonable crowd, the front of which seemed happy enough but it was not for me. £ 100 wasted in my view.
Wish I had taken the promoters offer to swap our Lizzy tickets for the Queensryche tour later this year.
.
If you want to see Thin Lizzy, go see the brilliant Limehouse Lizzy who will show you what Phill Lynot and his music is all about, I reccomend you give the 2007 Thin Lizzy a wide berth.
It saddens me to say that. |

Went to the Nottingham show last night, and have to say that dh were on top form as always. The whole band seemed very comfortable in front of the larger crowds, who seemed to warm to dh quite well, although it was only around 50% full, which was a shame.
Was a little odd having to sit down and watch dh, and not be right at the front of the stage, but c'est la vie!
As for Thin lizzy, I think their performance was summed up pretty well by XRWoody.
Not being old enough to ever have seen the real lizzy it was quite nice to hear the classics being played live, but the whole thing just didn't feel right (a lot of that was because i kept thinking was i watching whitesnake considering 3/4 members were the same). I thought their lead singer was trying too hard, esp when he started kissing the sky to Phil, what was that all about!?
i had to leave way before the end due to trains, but i saw what i came to see and was very impressed. If you get the chance to get hold of a cheap ticket, well worth going for dh, brian was on fire!!! |

I've seen the "reformed" Lizzy just once before, about 7 years ago. Drummer then was Tommy Aldridge, who I believe is back with them now. I felt pretty much the same as XRWoody's post - Aldridge is totally unsuited to Lizzy. He's too loud - too much of a "basher". Brian Downey is a rock solid drummer with a lot of finesse. |

Did you not see Thin Lizzy just in May there Weissheim when they supported Deep Purple - I'm sure I met you at the end of that concert (at least I think it was that concert).
I hope to be right down the front on Friday but will look out for you and say Hi if I spy you!!!!
