What are Classic Rock doing?I just had a quick look to see what DVD are out in this month's Classic Rock and was shocked to see DH's DVD being reviewed again!!! (this time by Geoff Barton). I went back and checked, yep they did review it back in October.Unfortunetly it got a worse review this time  Oh well, at least DH get a little more coverage.

What are Classic Rock doing indeed?
I really should wait and see the latest issue for myself first but from Sleeper’s comment once again it seems certain music journalists and critics are putting down Diamond Head just because they can’t seem to let go of the past and see and hear what’s in front of them NOW which is one really great kick a** rock band. I’m actually a very harsh music critic and don’t hand out praise for bands/musicians lightly. Naturally you don’t see that side of me here since I’ve become such a huge “Diamond Head”, at least as much as I can on this side of the pond 
I have every issue of Classic Rock (from No. 1 to January 2007 and waiting for February 2007) and read everything they’ve printed about Diamond Head and this definitely seems to be a long established pattern I have the impression is getting to be a real problem as far as CR goes. It's a good thing I don't let anyone dictate my musical tastes except ME! Strictly IMO but CR should get some other people to review and write about DH, not use these same guys simply because they’ve had a past association covering the band. It’s about time they got someone more objective with a fresh point of view. I know from others’ past experience it seems useless to try to write or e-mail these guys but maybe we should at least send them some mail to make some noise and let them know there’s people who disagree with them and THEY just *might* be wrong. I think I’m going to be getting out the latest issue I have of CR and looking up some addresses ... |

Hi Guys!Forward me those addresses as soon as possible please!Must admit here in Italy I only get Classic Rock if my brother kindly sends me a copy, the Italian rock mags are much better though as I do believe every performance and band are given reviews using what I like to refer to as "constructive criticism". Not a new concept I know, a just one though. I must admit, I don't know what the article says, I could write an article that says things like, great set list but I wish Ishmael could have made it onto the DVD etc but as far as a performance goes, you cannot knock it, great performance, great sound. Luckily I am no sheep and do not follow the CR reviews to seriously!!! |

classicrock@furturenet.co.uk if you want to air your views. So far I'm going with "what's the point?" mentallity, after my last attempt. And... Damn right, don't follow the heard, otherwise we'd all be out buying the latest crap that radio 1 plays (for those of you not familiar with the BBC, it is the main pop radio station in the UK). It just dishearteds me slightly when I hear views like that (I'm not going to quote as I know our US friends have yet to read), where they have a little go at Nick. Mainly for 2 reasons. First being that I care about DH, as they should be up there with the likes of Saxon, etc as one of the best bands from the NWOBHM period. That is the reason I joined the Street Team, as I just sort of wanted to help them out somehow, although my attempts so far have not gone to plan. Only 5 people being there at the camp site in Milton Keynes and I bet everyone at the Leicester gig had one of the posters I put up around the city, as they all disappeared within a few days! lol. Anyway, reviews like this are only going to put people off buying Diamond Head's records and going to see them live if they are told that Nick is no Sean Harris. Secondly I feel a bit sorry for Nick. Can't be nice if every review you hear just compares you to the bloke you took over from. Not as if Nick kicked him out or anything (as far as I know)!!! Ahh, I feel a little better now. Had today's rant. Well, to tell the truth, it was my second after shouting at the Debt Savers Direct advert on TV!

I have no problem with your rant, Sleeper, I agree with you completely. Especially about Nick. What is so difficult about the concept of Nick is doing a great job? Not to mention the whole band is doing great. Quit living in the past and quit crying about Sean not being in the band. Look at and listen to the here and now. Diamond Head is an excellent example of a band picking up the pieces, moving on, and actually sounding better than ever. Mr. Geoff’s “review” of the DVD had me wanting to throw things!
Also, “comparisons” has been one of my pet peeves lately ... For what it’s worth, here’s the snail mail address for Classic Rock as well: Classic Rock, 2 Balcombe Street, London NW16NW I understand the “What’s the point?” mentality. While I haven’t attempted communicating with some of these music journalists, etc. to air my displeasure about things said about certain bands/artists, I know people who have. Those who have gotten a response, it’s usually a very unsatisfactory one. Just the same, I don’t see the harm in “making some noise”. |

Hey guys!
Hold off on this one for a bit!!! I spoke to Dave Ling last night and to be honest, he is actually a real nice guy believe it or not!!! SO my thoughts have changed on him. Also I have a better weapon! Knowledge!!!....Like the old proverb, if you cant beat 'em, Join 'em....well thats what I am going to do. Will notify you all when I get my first article in CR mag. This has now become my Holy Grail!!!! All Ahoy!
