When i learned to play Evil and The prince i studied both DiamondHeads way and Metallica's rendition and as good as a guitarist as kirk is, he still can t touch the smoothness of Brain.

I agree!!! Very Happy

I'm still thinking about my answer to the original question posed in this thread which I suspect will closely resemble Weissheim's list. In the meantime I'll mention that when I first listened to Metallica's Garage Inc. it was obvious the Diamond Head tracks were the coolest songs on the album. When I finally got around to listening to "the originals" I was totally blown away. There's a certain nuance in Brian's guitar playing that can't compare to the Metallica versions. I think Brian is so criminally underrated in the grand scheme of guitarists I could just scream sometimes!!!

Got to say that I'm not a Hammett fan at all. I find Kirk's soloing in Metallica's DH covers very poor, to be honest. Brian has a very melodic ear which is totally missing in Metallica's versions.

Agree with that too. I don't think I'm contradicting myself, just agreeing with what you guys are saying about BRIAN's guitar playing.

Laughing I went through my "Metallica period" but have long since moved on.

I don't play guitar and openly admit I am so "guitar illiterate" it's almost pathetic so to try to explain from a more descriptive point of view ... It seems like Kirk glommed on to this "thing" that sounds kind of cool at first but ended up getting really old fast for me. Brian definitely has a certain style but I don't sense him repeating himself. His playing keeps growing and moving forward. I don't get bored with it and keep finding something new every time I listen to Diamond Head. I don't tire of listening to Brian's guitar playing at all! Very Happy

This is off the top of my head ...

In The Heat Of The Night
The Prince
Borrowed Time
Don’t You Ever Leave Me

There’s more ... I know there’s some wonderful stuff on Canterbury but the specific songs aren’t immediately coming to mind right now. Same with What’s In Your Head. I just love almost all of Brian’s guitar solos. Seriously, from my guitar illiterate point of view he’s one of the few who hasn’t given me one or more of those WTF moments listening to the music.

The solo on Wild on the Streets is my favourite, like most of Brian's solos it's a great tune on top of a great tune rather than just a blur of notes.
Lloydie Lloyd

In the heat of the night is always a good one. Although it changes week after week as there are a lot of good solo's on the DH albums. Another good melodic one would be Truckin'
