Favorite Guitar PlayersAgain, this is about discussing favorites and not fighting over who’s the best.
Who are some of your FAVORITE guitar players?
I’m more of a general music lover than a guitar geek and for me it takes a LOT for someone on their own to get my attention and even at that the “usual suspects” aren’t the ones who stand out to my ears.
It seems that guitar players named Steve or Brian have a pretty good change of winding up on my list!
Except for Brian May, these are in no particular order:
Brian May
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Jimi Hendrix
Steve Clark
Brian Tatler
Joe Satriani
Steve Vai
Eric Johnson
Randy Rhoads
Chris DeGarmo
Tracii Guns
George Lynch
I can think of quite a few more guys "just bubbling under" but I thought I'd stop at a dozen

I can only be quick as am working but had to reply with just two names to wet your appetites!
Steve Stevens from Billy Idol fame is in my opinion a great under-rated guitarist
also
Jennifer Batten for the Girl Power she bought to Michael Jacksons songs....check out the MJ Dangerous tour DVD, she does some great solos.
These are just two names that I think deserve to be up here, I will be back with my "Best of the Best" list soon though when I have 5 mins. For example I love Satch and Vai and Petrucci and obviously Van Halen too etc etc! See already too many to name!!!!
Oh and Jason Becker is a great idol for me, check him out on Youtube, amazing guitarist and even more amazing human being if you know the story of what he is being put through daily....just an amazing guy.

Jennifer Batten again!
Recently there was this "best guitar player" poll on a Norwegian web site and out of the the 150-200 or so guitar players listed, I think she was the only female guitar player mentioned. I had no idea who the heck she was so I looked her up. Still haven't had a chance to listen to any of her playing.
Really in a way it is kind of sad that there seems to be no good female rock guitar players anyone knows about. I couldn't even think of one off the top of my head to save my life!

Jennifer BattenI agree, women should start playing more!
I know there are bands with female singers that are just breaking through (Lacuna Coil springs immediately to mind as I am in Italy!). The only other female guitarist I can think of on the spot is Rob Zombies bassist from his White Zombie days. Sean Yseult her name was and to show off my sexist pig side "a bit of a babe too"
Anyway if you can get your hands on any of her [Batten's] discs I do seem to remember one CD called Tribal rage or something similar....a good disc anyway and worth the money you pay if anyone has it up for sale on e-bay!

If you're on the lookout for good new female bands there is a new one over here in the UK called McQueen, just released their debut album about a month ago.
I saw them support WASP and was very impressed.

Hey Weissheim you see there is a Jason Becker DVD coming out soon?
Have also been watching Dream Theatres Budokan DVD lately (like non-stop at home!) and love the "Hollow Man" track with John Petrucci.
Lets try the maths
John Petrucci > Joe Satriani
Am I right or wrong?!
