Diamond Head Live In Concert VideotapeI have a VHS tape I bought off eBay called Diamond Head - Live In Concert. It's a legit release of a live show "Filmed during the 1984 'University Tour'" Anyone else have this, seen this, have an opinion on it to offer? Just curious.

Just now I played it enough to look at the credits. It doesn't say but the announcer for the gig ... oh this is funny ... it sounds like he says Leicester!!!
Just curious to know what anyone else thinks of the show. I'm left with the feeling, ok, is it just me or ...? Brian's great as usual. The rest has me going along with the concept of if you can't say anything nice ...
Hey, I figure why not discuss the good AND the bad in this section of the forum and on these album/video threads.

Leicester UniversityHi,
The video is indeed recorded at Leicester University (Feb 1984). It was done basically with just two separate camera and mixed together using the best tracks from that concert.
We have got a dvd transfer of this now so we will put some of it up on the site at some point in the near future. The quality of this is not great as it was taken from the video tape.
Cheers

That sounds awesome! Be great to see if The Venue (the uni's concert arena/nightclub) has changed much since then. Be even better if the played there again this year!!!

That would be cool. The more video the better.
How much of Diamond Head is there on video/film anyway? (Including TV appearances?) Obviously not a whole lot turns up where I'm at. I was completely shocked when I saw "Call Me" on VH-1 Classic a few years ago.

I remember the Leicester video going on sale via the fan club. I didn't have a VHS player at the time, so I didn't buy it - something I regretted in later years!!
I recently acquired a DVD transfer of the Leicester gig, and I've re-authored it to include menus and chapters.
As far as the gig goes, it's fairly representative of that time period, but for a modern day DH fan it might be a bit of a shock!
The band is Sean/Brian/Josh Phillips-Gorse(keys)/David Williamson(bass)/Robbie France(drums). David Williamson was the most recent addition to the line-up and completely changed the band's sound. He was a fantastic funk player, and Sean/Brian took advantage of this to revamp all the songs. It is weird in retrospect hearing songs like Lightning To The Nations funked-up, but it did work quite well on most of the material. I saw them twice on that tour and they were much better than the video presentation would have you believe.
The video is not particularly well shot (understandable for a low-budget two camera shoot) and the lighting is very poor.

Thank you so much for your comments!
Watching this video I get the sensation of "it is just me or ..." and I'm so happy to see someone someone else post their thoughts. You've also given me enough information that I can watch it again and hopefully understand what's going on musically a lot better.

I was very glad to see this comment too ...
I'm loving this! It's one of the things I was hoping for on this forum. Ask a question on something you're very curious about and ye shall receive a good answer!
