Classic Rock radioHello all,
Just to announce that I have been given a slot on LUSH radio (Leicester), which can be heard on-line at www.lushradio.co.uk (I think), from Monday onwards. Or we will be broadcasting on soon 107.5 FM.
Anyway, my show is on Thursdays at 12 (noon) and is a classic rock show. Each week I'll take a differnt classic artist and explore what influenced them and what they went onto influence.
This Thursday I is going to be Led Zepplin, so there will definetly be some Diamond Head. Along with some Yard Birds, Wolf Mother and lots of Zep!!!

That's very cool! Classic rock on the radio is a GOOD thing! I'd really like to hear the show but the problem for me is 12 noon in Leicester is 7:00 a.m. in Florida and I'm already at work by then where they have just about all audio from the Internet blocked. Well, maybe on Thanksgiving (Nov. 23, holiday here) I can try to tune in via the web site.
Hope others can check this out .

So, Sleeper, how did the radio show go and are there going to be any more?
I still haven't checked to see if the radio station comes over the Inernet when I'm at home.
I'm going to be home next Thursday morning, as far as I know. Mainly a matter of getting myself out of bed that early on a day I don't have to go to work.

The show is going very well so far, Led Zeppelin and Iron Maiden went down very well.
Good news for you Americans who want to listen in, and anyone else (esp Leicester). I have impressed the station enough to be let on FM (107.5 for anyone in Leicester).
Therefore my show has changed times. I am now on at 3pm on Saturdays. You can litsen in via this link http://streaming1.le.ac.uk/Lush%20FM?MSWMExt=.asf
This week (Nov 25th) I am doing Metallica, so except a few DH songs. Any requests?

Sleeper, I didn't catch the corrected e-mail address to send an e-mail to the studio during your show today. Maybe you can post it on this board.
Great job and nice selection of songs! I really enjoyed the show.
Looking forward to the Ritchie Blackmore themed show next week. Deep Purple MK II and any Rainbow is fine by me!

Glad to hear that you managed to listen in and liked the show
The e-mail address is lushstudio@le.ac.uk
Any requests Deep Purple/Rainbow you have for next week, feel free to ask. It'll get played.
What did you think of Megadeth's new track? I personally think that it is pretty good and get better as it goes along. Can't wait for the album to come out now!

Some good news about the show.
I've been gifted a 2 hour special today, no idea why (I assume that the presenter after me is away this week). Anyway, It means that I can expand the show a little.
So I am going to have the normal format for the show during the first 1.5hours. then in the last half hour I'll be looking at the smaller bands I have previously played, but not had the time to really talk about them much. So guess what, DH gets more air time. Today I think I'll play something off AWBR.

Sleeper, are you still doing your radio show? I tried to tune in via the Internet and keep getting an error message on my Windows Media Player. It happened on both computers and I tied other things I usually listen to/watch on my Windows Media Player and it worked fine. About the only other thing I can figure out is I recently downloaded the latest version of WMP to both my laptop and desktop but as I just mentioned, everything else plays fine. Is there a problem at the radio station's end?

Don't worry, it was the stations fault. We shut down for the christmas period, but we are back on!
I was going to do a GNR show, but I'm putting that on hold for the moment. So, next week it'll be a Rolling Stones show.

I still couldn't get the radio station to tune in over the Internet.
The Rolling Stones ... hmmm ... I suppose it's too late to request Gimmie Shelter?
GNR ... hmmm ... Strictly IMO but honestly I think they did one pretty good album and that's about it. Didn't really understand the fuss about them. Rocket Queen ... mainly because I like the bass on it. Patience ... actually one of my favorite GNR songs. I didn't even know it was them when I first heard it on the radio around 1989/1990. Might be a little too mellow for a rock program though.

It's not too late, as my show never went on air, as I had a wonderful Industrial Organisation exam!!! So, hopefully, you can tune in on Saturday. I've changed my mind a little on the theme of the show, it'll be a blue rock show, so stones, yardbirds etc. I'll also put your request out

Just in case people wondered what was going on with my show here's a little update:
The show has not been on due to broadcasting license problems and Ofcom being slow. We are trying to change to digital station (can become LUSH Digital) but, as always, government departments are taking their time, which is really annoying.
the station will be back on the air (via the internet only) on Monday (12th) and then back on FM March 2nd. Although, for those of you living in Leicester, the station will now be on 87.7FM and not 107.9, no idea why.

Nice one Sleeper, will try and tune in when I get a day off of work
Actually if it's broadcast on the net, will try and record it on my PC at work....will let you know how I get on, we have some computer Police here in my office

The show is back on air!!!
However, it is now on a Tuesday at 2100 GTM, which I guess is better than 3 on a Saturday.
Anyway, it starts this tuesday and I will be doing the aforementioned Brit Blues Rock show.

Same e-mail address as before, Sleeper?
Darn! Looks like I’m going to miss the Tuesday show. I actually had to break out the time converter ... maybe it’s just too early in the morning to think. I’ve coordinated a few online chats between people located literally all over the world and can usually do the time conversions off the top of my head now.
I’m in the same time zone as New York City and Miami (for frame of reference) and the radio show would be on at 4:00 p.m. here. I’m usually not home from work until after 5:15/5:30 p.m. at the earliest. Unless they’re giving you two hours again?
It’s great to know there’s someone out there broadcasting and spreading the word about classic rock as I’ve gotten the impression radio over there is pretty cr*ppy as far as playing any classic rock and old school metal. Actually it’s not so great here any more either. I almost never listen to the radio at home (except a morning “oldies” show which has an amusing crew while getting ready for work) and in my car I play CD’s or cassettes. I do my own “programming”!

Yep, same e-mail (lushstudio@le.ac.uk) as before, there is a phone number, but I wouldn't bother as the sound quality on our phone connection is very poor.
I havn't been given 2 hours again, which is a shame.
And HiFi, you right about classic rock over here, no-one is promoting it on the mainstream radio, apart from occasionly Bruce Dickenson gets a show on BBC Radio 2 (which is our middle of the road station). It is a shame, esp as classic rock is pretty big. Anyway, hopefully, one day it will change.

Well, the new timetable has come out and with that Owen's new slot (why must they always play around with it?) Anyway, I finally got a 2 hour show, At midnight!!!! Oh well, if Bruce Dickenson can cope so can I
New time - Friday 0000-0200 GMT
New frequency - 87.5FM
New website - lush-radio.co.uk
P.S.
If anyone from Leicester Uni does read this, I know some do, a few things to say
1)Sign up to the boards and JOIN IN!!!!!
2)vote for Jones on Thursday for Finance and Management without portfolio

Cool!
That's 7:00-9:00 p.m. EST. Unless something really unusual happens I should be home to try to tune in via the Internet.
Which bands/songs are you planning on playing?

Erm, so far not too sure. At the moment I am running for election to the Student Union, and am run off my feet. However, I was thinking of doing the first half of the show as a Ronnie James Dio special and then plugging bands I like that I think are very under-rated (e.g. DH) in the latter half

And good luck with the election!

Sleeper, I really enjoyed your radio show last Friday, and congrats on winning the election!
I sent an e-mail to the station during the show reminding Sleeper to play some Diamond Head and he played Lightning To The Nations and Borrowed Time.
How about one from All Will Be Revealed or It's Electric on the next show? That's my request!
Everyone else reading this, you really should tune in and don't forget to send e-mail during the show!

No problem, the second half is going to be NWOBH so it will be very easy to fit in and you can never have enough DH! Also, I'll be playing a track off Saxon's new album.
Thank you for your kind words and e-mail

I enjoyed the latest edition of the show, even in spite of the glitch with the mp3 thingy you managed all right, Sleeper! Having your girlfriend on the show with you was quite a suprise It was interesting hearing what she had to say about things too, including about meeting Diamond Head! Will she be making a return appearnce on the show? Maybe another time you'll get to work out playing some old school L.A. Guns?
Did I hear you correctly that you're doing QUEEN on the next show? Yay! Still my all time favorite rock band. Between Queen, Queen II, Sheer Heart Attack, A Night At The Opera, A Day At The Races, News Of The World, Jazz ... plenty of great classic & heavy tracks to choose from! My favorite heavy Queen song is Tie Your Mother down. That will be my request!
And more Diamond Head, right?

She will, probabley, be making an return to the show, it's nice to walk in with her (as I mentioned on the show, I'm above a nightclub and so I have to flight my way through the drunks to get into teh studio, always nice to have someone else there!).
Also, you've just mentioned all the Queen albums that I was going to be playing off, so I hope you enjoy. And of course there's going to be some more DH, although not 3 songs this time! The second half was going to be the first wave of British heavy metal, so bands like Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin etc. Should be a good'un

Sounds good, Sleeper! LZ is probably a given ... I've always liked Deep Purple.
Oh wow, I remember you two discussing night clubs but I missed the bit that the studio is above one! I just assumed it was in a building on the campus ... like one school I was at for a couple semesters ... the radio and TV station was in the mass communications building.

Hey, what happened to the show last Friday?
I tuned in and all I got was DEAD AIR!
Sure, I can get out my records, CD's, etc. and do my own "programming" on the hi fi system but hearing the stuff on a radio program is pretty cool.
Hope everything is ok!

Sorry about that. The show was cancelled due to Ofcom rules, totally out of the stations control and I was informed until a few hours before the show, so I was pretty angry for awhile
I was hoping to do out with a bang, I was going to give a rundown of all the gigs I've been to in the best 12 months (Which would mean quite a bit of DH considering I saw them 3 times on their last tour). Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the shows that were broadcast. I'm afraid no more LUSH for quite awhile, as our licence has run out and an FM licence for one month costs around $10,000, so I have no idea when we'll be back on-air, but I'll keep you posted!
|
HiFi

Aw, sorry to hear that.
I hope the Ofcom rules thing isn't as serious as running afoul of the FCC here! Why do things have to be so difficult?
It was nice while it lasted. Hope you guys can get back on the air again sometime!

Monsters of Rock is back!!!!
I'm back on the radio on Saturday mornings from 9-11 GMT.
The first week will be a kind of catch up programme where I'll be playing stuff from releases over the Summer (so you'll be getting some DH). No real theme worked out yet.
later on Jack is making a guest appreance on the show, and he'll be giving his best songs to rock out to.
Any requests just PM me and I'll play it.

I guess I shouldn't have given up so soon! The other night I was cleaning up my bookmarks and deleted the ones that got me to your radio show ... ooop ... Anyway, is the show still on the same radio station? Not sure about getting up at 4:00 a.m. EST on a Saturday but we'll see ...
As long as you play some DIAMOND HEAD, it's all good!

It's on the same radio station, but the website has changed (for the worse). The best way to listen in is via the link on Wikipedia

I have two DH songs planned so far
